The cumulative work of almost one year of preparations will be displayed when Movie Park Germany opens its newest Attraction “The Walking Dead Breakout”. “We can hardly wait to show the results of what we achieved in the past months” says General Manager Thorsten Backhaus. In 700 qm, the world of “The Walking Dead®” has been re-created, which is one of the most popular and successful series in the world.
Zombies, known as Walkers, will thrill and scare guests live and close-up. A top notch horror experience. “The demand for a permanent Horror attraction in the park was high. When we posted about the new attraction based on the series on Facebook, we had an overwhelming reaction. Over 2.2 million users were reached and we had 105.000 reactions, comments and shares. A response which confirmed that we were right on target with our decision to build such an attraction”, so the General Manager.
Since the initial announcement on social media and the actual start of the building phase in February, a lot has taken place. 1400 qm of wooden planks, 4.5 kilometers of wooden beams and 500 liters of paint have been utilized to construct and theme the attraction. “In total we have over 15 very detailed and original-like rooms which are based on the TV series seasons’ chronologically. We started with the hospital from the first season and continued on to the prison, then on to Terminus. Just to name a few examples. There was a very close cooperation with AMC in the USA and the Pay-TV Channel Fox in Germany for the approval and consultation process”, explains Thorsten Backhaus. 3 kilometers of cable, 70 spot lights and 30 speakers ensure that the guests are not only visually stimulated but also acoustically.
The live actors, whom were casted in April, have been preparing since begin of June for their performance. Rehearsals and professional make-up are on the agenda so that the first guests can visit the new attraction on the 19th of June.
Jora Entertainment, a Dutch company, which is specialized in the conception and production of horror attractions, was responsible for the construction and realization. Jora has, in the past, constructed other Halloween concepts for amusement parks and is well established in the industry. It is the first cooperation with Movie Park Germany and such a film license.
“The Waking Dead Breakout” is not only one of a kind in Germany, it is also unique in the history of the park. “Until now we only had horror themes in October during our Halloween Horror Festival. We will be celebrating 18 years of the festival this year, which is the biggest of its kind in Europe. The festival’s increasing success has shown us that there is continual interest from guests on this type of content. Now horror fans can come to the park throughout the entire season and not only on specific days in October“, so the general manager. The new attraction is part of Germany’s largest Film and Amusement Park’s strategy to have a good balance in its portfolio for teenagers as well as families. Starting on the 19th of June, horror fans up 16 years can get an extra adrenaline kick in the enclosed attraction. The up-sell price is 5 Euros.
